Iceland: Renewable Energy, Technology, and Resource Economics
Students spend time in the capital, Reykjavík, where they learn about Iceland´s energy policy from politicians, industry leaders and social activists. Three weeks of the programme are spent in the Westfjord region. The first two are located to the University Centre of the Westfjords in Ísafjörður, where students will learn about renewable energy and sustainability through coursework and learn to apply principles on a small town scale. Here students also get the opportunity to learn what it is like to live in Iceland, as they will stay with local families. The third, last week is spent at the Holt Lodge, a former boarding school in the countryside some 20 km´s from Ísafjörður. Here students will engage in projects, but also enjoy the closeness of nature with the golden sands of the Holt beach, the rich birdlife and hiking and biking in the surroundings.
The University Centre has welcomed SIT groups each summer since 2007 and looks forward to meeting the 2014 group.
